iRex Digital Reader
Ok, the eReader-business is really getting interesting.
Amazon has finally produced a good, usable eReader with the Kindle DX. Then, some weeks ago, Sony introduced the Daily Edition, which looks very nice, too.
Everybody is impatiently waiting for Plastic Logic’s eReader and now iRex has introduced something new; the iRex Digital Reader.

It bears a striking resemblance to the reading device by Plastic Logic, but is about two inches smaller with 8.1” in screen-size. It appears to support a slew of open and closed formats as well as DRMed-ePub-files. Other specs include a touchscreen interface, a built-in 3G-connection (Verizon with unlimited data in the US — we’ll see who iRex will work with in Europe) and a built-in eBook mall (just like Amazon’s).
It’ll be available in the USA next month and will ship to Europe next year.
The price will be $400,- in the USA; I’m keeping my fingers crossed it won’t cost €400,- over here when it hits.
Gizmodo has more info on the Digital Reader, as well as a hands-on, be sure to check out their coverage here and here.
