To my readers and followers
I set-up a new blog over at mangochut.net. There I will write about technology related topics.
Alongside it, I installed a second blog, to be found under mirthchutney.tumblr.com where I will continue to post things that make me laugh.
Please be sure to adjust the URLs in your RSS reader and/or follow me on tumblr.
Regards,
Alex

Chuck and Tom Paris, wait what? →
I just had a nerd-gasm whilst feeling incredibly stupid.
You know the guy who played Tom Paris on Star Trek Voyager? His name is Robert Duncan McNeill and I’ve been watching stuff he helped create, without even realising it.
Every time the name scrolled by I wondered where I had heard it before, but I never consulted IMDB… stupid me.

In order to get 10 hours of battery life, the entire iPad (including display)...
– iFixit. Wow. I hadn’t bothered to do the math in my head, so I didn’t realize how impressive that was until now. That’s insane.
If we didn’t have proof right here in front of us, I’d insist that 2.5W total power consumption for a computer with a brightly backlit 9” LCD while playing videos and...

Amen Kyle Baxter, amen.
This basically nails it. Ads from the companies named, aren’t randomly generated ads, but randomly displayed ads for hand-picked products. They have actually gotten me to buy some of the advertised products, whereas 99.9% of all web ads I simply...

background apps and the iPhone/iPad
I just read this post by Andy Ihnatko on the absence of multitasking for third party apps on the iPad. Also: A mere hour ago John Gruber wrote this:
The iPad’s twice as fast as an iPhone 3GS, and appears to have the same amount of RAM: 256 MB.
This made me think about the implications of running apps in the background on the iPhone and iPad.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but the iPhone 3GS...

An underrated iPad feature
The thing that is going to matter most about the iPad, in comparison to other tablets, netbooks and laptops, is the ‘instant-on’ feature. With the iPhone it wasn’t something people really thought about (every mobile phone does it), but with a device that is being wilfully wedged between the iPhone and the laptop, it is this capability that will win many people over.

Read this: Stephen Fry visits the Apple... →
There are few writers I enjoy reading more than Steven Fry. He was given the opportunity to visit Apple’s headquarters in Cupertino, talk to Steve Jobs and try the iPad. Give this article a read, you won’t regret it.

Very nice video and a matching soundtrack. The bad thing is it makes want to go to London to grab a pint.

modified my tumblelog
I took the time to;
add the disqus comment system to the blog
add a twitter badge to the sidebar
add some links to other place I can be found on the web
I’d like to thank Thijs Jacobs for all the work he’s put into the theme I’m using, making it so easy to add more functionality and content and a tumble-blogger called Nate, who directed me to this very helpful article, on how...
